১৯৭৫ সালের ১৫ আগস্টের পর দীর্ঘ ৩৬ বছর পার হলেও জাতির জনক বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানের নিহত হওয়ার দিনটির ঘটনা জানতে জনগণের আগ্রহের একটুও কমতি নেই। বাংলাদেশের মানুষের হৃদয়ে এখনো জ্বলজ্বল করছে সেই মহান ব্যক্তি সর্বকালের সর্বশ্রেষ্ঠ বাঙালি বঙ্গবন্ধুর প্রতিচ্ছবি। পৃথিবীর নৃশংস ও জঘন্যতম হত্যাকv‡Ûর ওইদিনটির ঘটনা মনে করে গোটা বাঙালি জাতি আজো ডুকরে কেঁদে ওঠে। তবে একটু ফিরে তাকালে আজ সবই স্পষ্ট। ওইদিন রাতে কী ঘটেছিল, কারা জড়িত ছিল ইতিহাসের সেই নৃশংসতম-বর্বর হত্যাকা-ের সঙ্গে, কী ছিল ঘাতকদের উদ্দেশ্য তা দেশের মানুষের কাছে আজ আর অজানা নয়। এরপরও সেদিনের ঘটনা বছর বছর প্রতিটি বাঙালিই জানতে চায়; বিশেষ করে শোকের মাস আগস্ট এলে। বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান ১৫ আগস্ট ভোররাতে সপরিবারে নিহত হলেও আগের দিন থেকেই ঘাতকরা ছিল সম্পূর্ণ প্রস্তুত। তাদের মিশন সফল করার জন্য আগের দিনই মাঠে নামে তারা। যদিও স্বাধীনতার পর থেকেই দেশি-বিদেশি ষড়যন্ত্রকারীরা ছিল সক্রিয়। ১৫ আগস্ট সকালে বঙ্গবন্ধুর ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের সমাবর্তন অনুষ্ঠানে যোগ দেয়ার কথা ছিল। আর ঘাতকচক্র তথা সেনাবাহিনীর বিপথগামী কিছু সৈনিক ওই দিনটিকেই বেছে নেয় তাকে হত্যার জন্য। তাছাড়া সেদিনটি ছিল ভারতের স্বাধীনতা দিবস। খুনিরা তাদের পরিকল্পনার অংশ হিসেবে ১৪ আগস্ট বিকাল থেকে রাত পর্যন্ত ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের বিভিন্ন এলাকায় বোমা ফাটায়। এতে তারা ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে বঙ্গবন্ধুর নিরাপত্তার কথা বলে সাঁজোয়া যান ও ট্যাংক নামানোর সুযোগ পায়। এতে করে ঘাতকচক্র নিষ্কণ্টক করে নেয় তাদের অভিযানের নীলনকশা। প্রত্যক্ষদর্শীদের বিবরণে যা জানা গেছে তাতে যে কোনো বিবেকবান মানুষের মন না টলে থাকতে পারে না। দীর্ঘ ৩৬ বছর পরও সে হত্যাকা‡Ûর নারকীয় বর্বর কাহিনী শুনলে মানুষের চোখ অশ্রুসজল হয়ে ওঠে, ফেলে দীর্ঘশ্বাস। কিন্তু পাষ- ঘাতকদের মন একটুও গলেনি। তারা শিশু রাসেলের মতো নিষ্পাপ শিশু এবং নারীদেরও রেহাই দেয়নি। মুহুর্মুহু একের পর এক গুলি চালিয়ে নৃশংসভাবে হত্যা করেছে তাদের। ১৫ আগস্ট ভোর পৌনে ৫টায় ঘাতকরা ধানমwÛর ৩২ নম্বর সড়কে বঙ্গবন্ধুর বাসভবনে হামলা চালায়। ট্যাংক ও সাঁজোয়া যান নিয়ে ঘিরে ফেলে বঙ্গবন্ধুর বাড়ি। এর আগে অবশ্য ঘাতকরা আব্দুর রব সেরনিয়াবাত, শেখ ফজলুল হক মনি ও গাজী গোলাম মোস্তফার বাড়িতে হামলা করে। সেখানের গুলির শব্দ শুনে বঙ্গবন্ধু দোতলার শয়নঘর থেকে নিচতলায় নেমে আসেন। বঙ্গবন্ধু পুলিশকে ফোনে শুধু বলতে পারেন- 'আমি বঙ্গবন্ধু' বলছি। এরপর লাইন কেটে গেলে তিনি দোতলায় উঠে আসেন। এর কিছুক্ষণ পরই ঘাতকরা গুলি করতে করতে বঙ্গবন্ধুর বাড়িতে ঢুকে পড়ে। ওইদিনের ঘটনা একেবারে সামনে থেকে যিনি দেখেছেন সে সময়কালে বঙ্গবন্ধুর গৃহপরিচারক ও বঙ্গবন্ধু হত্যা মামলার ২ নম্বর সাক্ষী আব্দুর রহমান ওরফে রমা শেখের জবানবন্দিতে শোনা যাক। তিনি প্রত্যক্ষদর্শী হিসেবে আদালতে দীর্ঘ জবানবন্দি দেন লোমহর্ষক সে নৃশংস হত্যাকা-ের। তার এ জবানবন্দি আবুল হোসেন লিখিত 'বঙ্গবন্ধু হত্যা মামলা তদন্ত ও বিচার' বইয়ে প্রকাশ পেয়েছে। জবানবন্দিতে রমা শেখ বলেন_ ১৯৭৫ সালের ১৫ আগস্ট ঘটনার রাতে আমি এবং সেলিম দোতলায় বঙ্গবন্ধুর বেডরুমের সামনে বারান্দায় ঘুমিয়ে ছিলাম। আনুমানিক ভোর ৫টার দিকে হঠাৎ বেগম মুজিব দরজা খুলে বাইরে আসেন এবং বলেন, সেরনিয়াবাতের বাসায় দুষ্কৃতকারীরা আক্রমণ করেছে। ওইদিন তিন তলায় শেখ কামাল ও তার স্ত্রী সুলতানা ঘুমিয়েছিলেন। শেখ জামাল ও তার স্ত্রী রোজী এবং শেখ নাসের দোতলায় ঘুমিয়েছিলেন। বঙ্গবন্ধু ও তার স্ত্রী বেগম মুজিব এবং শেখ রাসেল দোতলায় একই রুমে ঘুমিয়েছিলেন। নিচতলায় পিএ মহিতুল ইসলামসহ অন্য কর্মচারীরা ছিল। বেগম মুজিবের কথা শুনে আমি তাড়াতাড়ি লেকের পাড়ে গিয়ে দেখি কিছু আর্মি গুলি করতে করতে আমাদের বাড়ির দিকে আসছে। তখন আমি আবার বাসায় ঢুকি এবং দেখি পিএ রিসেপশন রুমে, বঙ্গবন্ধু তার সঙ্গে কথা বলছেন। আমি পেছনের সিঁড়ি দিয়ে দোতলায় গিয়ে দেখি বেগম মুজিব দোতলায় ছোটাছুটি করছেন। আমি সাথে সাথে তিন তলায় যাই এবং আমাদের বাসা আর্মিরা আক্রমণ করেছে বলে কামাল ভাইকে ঘুম থেকে উঠাই। কামাল ভাই তাড়াতাড়ি একটা প্যান্ট ও শার্ট পরে নিচের দিকে যান। আমি তার স্ত্রী সুলতানাকে নিয়ে দোতলায় আসি। দোতলায় গিয়ে একইভাবে আমাদের বাসা আর্মিরা আক্রমণ করেছে বলে জামাল ভাইকে উঠাই। তিনি তাড়াতাড়ি প্যান্ট-শার্ট পরে তার মায়ের রুমে যান। সাথে তার স্ত্রী রোজীও যান। এ সময় খুব গোলাগুলি হচ্ছিল। একপর্যায়ে কামাল ভাইয়ের আর্তচিৎকার শুনতে পাই। একই সময় বঙ্গবন্ধু দোতলায় এসে রুমে ঢোকেন এবং দরজা বন্ধ করে দেন। প্রচ- গোলাগুলি এক সময় বন্ধ হয়ে যায়। এরপর বঙ্গবন্ধু দরজা খুলে আবার বাইরে এলে আর্মিরা তার বেডরুমের সামনে চারপাশে তাকে ঘিরে ফেলে। আমি আর্মিদের পেছনে ছিলাম। আর্মিদের লক্ষ্য করে বঙ্গবন্ধু বলেন, 'তোরা কি চাস, কোথায় নিয়ে যাবি আমাকে।' তারা বঙ্গবন্ধুকে তখন সিঁড়ির দিকে নিয়ে যাচ্ছিল। সিঁড়ির ২/৩ ধাপ নামার পর নিচের দিক হতে কয়েক আর্মি বঙ্গবন্ধুকে গুলি করে। গুলি খেয়ে সাথে সাথে বঙ্গবন্ধু সিঁড়িতে লুটিয়ে পড়েন। আমি তখন আর্মিদের পেছনে ছিলাম। তারা আমাকে জিজ্ঞাসা করে, 'তুমি কী কর?' উত্তরে আমি বলি- 'কাজ করি।' তখন তারা আমাকে ভেতরে যেতে বলে। আমি বেগম মুজিবের বাথরুমে গিয়ে আশ্রয় নেই। সেখানে বেগম মুজিবকে বলি বঙ্গবন্ধুকে গুলি করেছে। ওই বাথরুমে শেখ কামালের স্ত্রী সুলতানা, শেখ জামাল ও তার স্ত্রী রোজী, শেখ রাসেল, বেগম মুজিব ও বঙ্গবন্ধুর ভাই নাসের এবং আমি আশ্রয় নিই। শেখ নাসের ওই বাথরুমে আসার আগে তার হাতে গুলি লাগে। তার হাত থেকে তখন রক্ত ঝরছে। বেগম মুজিব শাড়ির অvচল ছিঁড়ে তার রক্ত মোছেন। এরপর আর্মিরা আবার দোতলায় আসে এবং দরজা পেটাতে থাকলে বেগম মুজিব দরজা খুলতে যান। তিনি বলেন, 'মরলে সবাই একই সাথে মরব।' এই বলে বেগম মুজিব দরজা খুললে আর্মিরা রুমের ভেতর ঢুকে পড়ে এবং শেখ নাসের, শেখ রাসেল, বেগম মুজিব এবং আমাকে নিচের দিকে নিয়ে যেতে থাকে। তখন সিঁড়িতে বেগম মুজিব বঙ্গবন্ধুর লাশ দেখে বলেন, 'আমি যাব না, আমাকে এখানেই মেরে ফেল।' এ কথার পর আর্মিরা তাকে দোতলায় তার রুমের দিকে নিয়ে যায়। একটু পরই ওই রুমে গুলির শব্দসহ মহিলাদের আর্তচিৎকার শুনতে পাই। আর্মিরা শেখ নাসের, রাসেল ও আমাকে নিচতলায় এনে লাইনে দাঁড় করায়। সেখানে সাদা পোশাকের একজন পুলিশের লাশ দেখি। নিচে শেখ নাসেরকে লক্ষ্য করে জিজ্ঞাসা করে, 'তুমি কে?' তিনি শেখ নাসের বলে পরিচয় দিলে তাকে নিচতলায় বাথরুমে নিয়ে যায়। একটু পরই গুলির শব্দ ও মাগো বলে চিৎকার শুনতে পাই। শেখ রাসেল 'মার কাছে যাব' বলে তখন কান্নাকাটি করছিল। পিএ মহিতুল ইসলামকে ধরে বলছিল, 'ভাই আমাকে মারবে না তো?' এমন অন্যদের থেকে জানা গেছে, সিঁড়িতে ঘাতকরা বঙ্গবন্ধুর দেহ ব্রাশ ফায়ারে ঝাঁঝরা করে দেয়। রক্তে ভিজে যায় তার গোটা শরীর। আমাদের মহান স্বাধীনতার স্থপতি, সর্বকালের সর্বশ্রেষ্ঠ বাঙালি জাতির জনক বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানের নিথর দেহ পড়ে থাকে সিঁড়িতে। ১৯৭১-এ স্বাধীনতাযুদ্ধে পাকবাহিনী যা পারেনি তাই করেছে সৈনিক নামধারী কুলাঙ্গার-নিকৃষ্ট এদেশেরই কিছু মানুষ। এছাড়া এর আগে অন্য বাড়িতে নিহত হন শেখ ফজলুল হক মনি, তার অন্তঃসত্ত্বা স্ত্রী আরজু মনি, আব্দুর রব সেরনিয়াবাত, শহীদ সেরনিয়াবাত, শিশু সুকান্ত বাবু, আরিফ, রিন্টু খানসহ অনেকে। এ যেন ছিল খুনিদের অদম্য রক্ত পিপাসা। তারা সাড়ে ৫ বছরের শিশু শেখ রাসেলকেও নৃশংসভাবে হত্যা করেছে; তার করুণ আকুতিও বর্বর পাষ- ঘাতকচক্রের মন গলাতে পারেনি। ঘাতকচক্রে ছিল লে. কর্নেল শরিফুল হক ডালিম, লে. কর্নেল (অব.) ফারুক রহমান, লে. কর্নেল (অব.) খন্দকার আব্দুর রশীদ, লে. কর্নেল আজিজ পাশা, লে. কর্নেল শাহরিয়ার রশিদ খান, লে. কর্নেল মুহিউদ্দিন আহমেদ, মেজর বজলুল হুদা, মেজর নূর চৌধুরী, মেজর রাশেদ চৌধুরী, মেজর এ কে এম মহিউদ্দিন, লে. নাজমুল হোসেন আনসার, ক্যাপ্টেন কিসমত হোসেন, লে. খায়রুজ্জামান, লে. আব্দুল মাজেদ ও রিসালদার মোসলেহ উদ্দিন।
