Arrest-attachment warrant issued against Torque, Harris Grenade case



Dhaka court in a stern action Thursday issued arrest-attachment warrants against a dozen high-profile persons, including BNP’ senior vice-chairman Torque Rah man and then Prime Minister’s political secretary Harris Chowdhury, in the case of grenade attack on Awami League rally on August 21, 2004. The 10 other warranted fugitives are BNP leader Shah Mozzarella Hussein Kick-board, ex-state minister religious affairs, former DGFI official Lt. Col. Sinful Islam Joarder, owner of Han if Enterprise Md. Han if, Hafiz Molina Ya hiya, Mufti Shaffer Rah man, Mufti Abdul Hoe, Retool Babur, former DC of police Md. Obadiah Rah man, former DC of police Khan Sadie Hassan and former army officer Major-General ATM Amino. Besides ordering the law-enforces to rein them in the court, the judge also issued an attachment order for confiscating their property “in case of their failure to surrender before the court within the given time-frame The court set July 26 for the police to submit the compliance report on the arrest and attachment warrants. Earlier in the day, 16 other already-detained accused of the case, including former state minister for home affairs Lutfozzaman Babar, ex-deputy minister Abdul Salem Pinto and mufti Hanna, were produced before the court of Judge Zahara Hague of the Metropolitan Special Tribunal-1. Among the other accused produced were Jamaal leader and ex-minister Ali Ashen Muhammad Mujib hid and former NSI chiefs Rezzaqul Hider Chowdhury and Abdul R ohm. The court denied bail to Mujib hid and Rezzaqul. However, the court allowed the lawyers of Babar and Mujib hid to visit the accused for half an hour. Earlier on July 3, top BNP leaders Torque Rah man, Harris Chowdhury and Lutfozzaman Babar and Jamaal secretary-general Mujib hid, among 30 new suspects, were freshly implicated in the case of Awami League meeting bombing on August 21, 2004. The court of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court issued arrest warrant against 18 absconding accused of the case in the same day.
