Fugitive killers of Bangabandhu to be back brought soon: Shafiqur




The process of bringing back all the absconding convicts in the Bangabandhu murder case is now at the final stage, said law, justice and parliamentary affairs minister Barrister Shafiqur Ahmed Sunday after a high-level meeting on the matter.

The verdict of the Supreme Court will be executed as soon as the killers would be brought back home from their hideouts,” he said while talking to journalists after a task force meeting on the fugitives convicts in the Bangabandhu murder case.

Held at the law ministry, the meeting was attended, among others, by Home Minister Advocate Sahara Khatun, Foreign Minister Dr Dip Moni, State Minister for Law Advocate Quadruply Islam and other high officials.

The law minister, also a senior lawyer of the Supreme Court, also told the journalists that remarkable progress has already been made in the extradition process. We have identified the countries they are hiding in,’’ he said. In response to a query the law minister said, The convict can appeal to the court against the verdict only after surrendering before the court, if they want. The court will then decide. Replying to another query, he said, The government is sincere to bring them back to the country as we are hopeful about executing their punishment as per judgment. As asked, Advocate Quadruply Islam told the journalists that allegation prim face has been found on Torque Rah man's involvement in the case of August 21 grenade attack and the charge sheet has been given in line with the discovery. In this regard he added: “I hope that he will continue legal battle after returning home if he has the courage and believes in the rule of law. Advocate Quadruply also told the journalists that Coco has also been convicted in money-laundering case. “I hope that he will also appeal to the higher court and surrender before the court for justice.
