
A team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) recovered 13,582 bullets and 13 kilograms of high explosives from forest at Kaliakoir in Gazipur in the early hours of Thursday. The ammunition and explosives including bullets of small machineguns (SMSgt) and rifles, and the bomb-making materials were hidden in 15 holes in Nishchintapur area of Gazari forest in the district. Lt Col Md Rashidul Alam, commanding officer of RAB-1, told The New Nation yesterday that members of the elite force, on a tip-off, began the raid in the area at 3:30 am. A dog squad also accompanied the RAB-men during the raid that continued till 6:00 am. The bullets (model -7.62),kept in 50 packets, were stored in 15 holes, the RAB official said adding bomb-making materials weighing 13 kg were also found at the same location. The explosives had been produced in the country; he quoted experts of RAB'S bomb disposal unit as saying. With the explosives, 100 bombs could be produced, the RAB official said, adding it was also possible to produce time bombs and car bombs using those explosives.Rashidul said they could not ascertain the origin of the bullets as there was no label on them.
RAB media Wing Director M Sohailsaid this paramilitary force also recovered 10 detonators, 135 feet wire, 17integrated circuits (ICs) and 12 battery connectors from a trunk.
