
Tortured Dhaka University teacher Rumania Mansur has lost both her eyes, Indian doctors have told her father.
Doctors of Sakkara Nethralaya in Chennai and Arvind Eye Centre in Pondicherry told me that both her eyes have been totally damaged," Rumania's father Monsieur Hosanna told, He said the wounds on her forehead, lips and face would be treated at the Lab Aid Hospital in Dhaka. Her eyes will also be treated to avoid further infections," he added. Hosanna demanded trial into the torture of Rumania, an assistant professor of International Relations department of the Dhaka University. Her colleague Mohammad Tazimuddin Khan told that she was taken to the Lab Aid Hospital. Rumania was taken to India on June 14 for treatment, as she was severely injured in a physical assault by her husband, Hassan Aside, who allegedly tried to gouge her eyes out and chewed her nose off in on June 5. She is doing a master's degree in Political Science at the Vancouver campus of the University of British Columbia in Canada, where she was supposed to submit her thesis paper in October. On June 15, Hassan was arrested and later grilled in a case filed in connection with the torture. He claimed she had an extramarital affair with an Iranian man, whom Rumania met while studying in Canada.
DECISION ON RECOVERY AFTER DISCUSSION WITH FAMILY
Chairman of the Dhaka University International Relations department Delaware Hosanna told that a decision on the recovery of Rumania's eyes would be taken after discussing the matter with her family. According to him, her left eye was totally damaged before and the other one is following it. Only 25 percent of the right eye is attached with the eye hole but it doesn't response to calls from her brain, he said. Delaware said, Indian doctors have lost hopes about the recovery of her eyes. They'll confirm it after two months.The decision on the recovery of her eyes will be taken after discussing the matter with her family, he added.
