BNP will throw away new constitution if voted to power Khaleda

will just throw away the new constitution crafted by the Awami League government if voted to power, said party chairperson and ex-premier Khaleda Zia, as she Wednesday led a mass hunger strike against the latest constitutional amendment that undid most of their past legislative works. The ruling Awami League has turned the constitution into their manifesto by amending it with an ulterior motive to cling to power lifelong. So we will throw it away the day we return to power, she said in her address to the hunger-strikers on Wednesday evening as chief guest. She also said they (AL) wanted to stay in power for life being afraid of possible trail of their misdeeds, including repression' on people. They cancelled the caretaker-government system to hold general election during their regime in a bid to fulfill their motive, she told her party faithful and allies from different parties in the anti-government protest on the IEB premises. But no election would be allowed to go under any political government. Even if it happens, BNP would boycott the polls. No election would be acceptable if it is held without the participation of BNP, Khaleda categorically said. Swearing another vow, the leader of the opposition in the current parliament said her party, along with country’s people, would resist any attempt at giving transit to India—as a Dhaka-Delhi deal in this regard is all but done. We achieved independence of the country with the sacrifice of blood. We never let you (govt) give corridor to India through our land. We will resist such attempt at any cost, she went on saying on this score. The ex-PM alleged that the ruling government is killing or concealing those who work for the country’s democracy. Their (Govt or police) target was not to injure Zonal Abadan Farooque (Opposition Chief Whip) but to kill him as he has been working for democracy. Those who have worked against the government were killed or removed, Khaleda Zia said in a blistering criticism of her political adversaries. Opposition BNP and its allies staged an 8-hour mass hunger strike in protest against the arrests, repression and attacks” during the recent 48-hour countrywide horal and demanding cancellation of the constitutional amendment that ditched caretaker government. The fast began at 10 am and concluded at 6 pm in the latest bout of anti-government agitation on their demand for scrapping the 15th amendment and restoring the caretaker system. The BNP chairperson and leader of the opposition joined the programmed at around 12 noon and led the fast of the politicos in front of the Institution of Engineering, Bangladesh (IEB), amid tight security.
Earlier on July 8, BNP acting secretary-general Mirzam Farrakhan Islam Alamgir had announced the programmed as part of their ongoing anti-government movement.
